It’s not a secret that I am a new Christian. Not new to God or Jesus just new to following them and searching for the Truth. I’m still working through a testimony- which feels strange writing. Christians should be able to pin point that moment when you broke. What life event or tragedy sent you seeking God to fix things. What made me pull Jesus off the shelf ? It’s just not clear to me yet. Honestly, I haven’t been there. Maybe that’s why my current situation is bringing me on this hot pursuit. How am I pursuing the Kingdom of God? Attending church, being part of the community and investing in learning everything I can.
As a part of this search, I have joined a group of fellow Christians from church. We call it a life group, it could be considered a small group or even a bible study; whichever title is more comfortable for you. Bottom line is we are all seeking the same thing, a closer relationship with our Creator and Savior. We support each other and attempt to solve the mystery that comes from the Bible.
I have heard it said many times that the Bible is the only book that reads you as you read it! I really enjoy that description because for me it seems to be true. While the words, the Truth never changes the seasons in-which we read it does; which changes the reflections that come from it. My Bible is my first step towards pursuing God’s Kingdom. Spending time in bible study and journalling were a easy commitment. I often read a chapter or two and follow with a journal entry of either a verse I want to remember or something that applies to my current situation. If neither of those apply- I write a summary of what I read…. or a quick sentence.
In addition to reading the Bible, I actively look for other means of media or books to read that help me stay on the right path to seeking God. I jot down book titles that I hear and look into those books of interest. I have subscribed to Christian faith based YouTube channels which I enjoy listening to; they also send out notifications with new publications. And podcasts are also great! It seems strange to think all of this information is out there- just not headlining like other media. Let’s face it the next Netflix season and next greatest hit are flashed everywhere. The real stuff- GOD stuff, you have to seek out. Sadly, God doesn’t make millions. Humans are looking for climax not eternal life….
Secondly, I seek God through prayer. This is definitely my weakness. I am a silent while praying or I journal everything. I’ve tried talking it out. I’ve asked Him for help and I got nothing. I think He’s waiting for me to figure it out- like He’s told me a million times and now it’s a waiting game. I’ve heard that God has a sense of humor… maybe hearing me blab like a hot mess is a highlight to Him? However, the prayer gets done God does answer on His time. Often in the shower.
Lastly, I stay away from things that don’t line up with His Truth. I mean the Commandments are out there- if you’ve never heard of them, that should be your first step- Google for a quick search or Exodus. Jesus says it best in the New Testament. I also stay far, far away from things that I have sinned in my past. For an example- if you were a drunk, you’d stay away from bars and liquor stores. Same for all other things. I had many weaknesses- many times when I was bored I’d hit the Casino. Which you could image all the things you can get into there…. so, I gave it up. Along with beer. Satan uses these things against me, but it’s getting easier.
I admit that baby steps are easier to commit too then full blown purge! Have you ever tried quitting something cold turkey only to last a day or an hour? God is patient and he wants us to purse Him. It takes time for things to settle in and real change to be made. Trust the process. Trust God. And understand from the start that your gonna fail. Maybe big time- but that’s why God’s grace is around. He knows we’re gonna suck somethings and He already has a plan to forgive us. Ask and you shall receive.
That sums up what I’ve tried so far. Again I’m new and actively seeking things that will bring me closer to the Creator. What have you tried? Am I missing something revolutionary that you have stumbled on? Please share!
Anyone out there can reach me on the Contact page. It is ’locked’ so post have to approved before thrown out there for the world to see. Its a good thing I have several scammers out there trying to market there unholy content! Satan on hyper drive is not gonna be approved! 🙂
