In Matthew chapter 12, starting at verse 34, Jesus warns us that our words can either justify us or condemn us. We must answer to every idol word that slips out. So, why as believers do we drag out conversations without lining them with scripture?

We get caught up on our human passions or experiences and that mouth just runs!! I am guilty of this. I get triggered and my mouth takes center stage to Jesus. I pray that God forgives even the smallest of comments! Before surrendering to Christ, I would gladly get out my soap box and spread the gossip. New age technology made it easier for gossip to spill out in the world at a faster pace.

Even sinners know the power of words. Why else would we have a nursery rhyme about sticks and stones?!? The author got it wrong…. Words will harm you! We have become accustomed to giving our opinions to anyone who would listen. This is a very dangerous culture shift that must be eliminated!

Jesus says in Matthew 12:34b “for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.” 35 A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things; and an evil man out of the evil treasures bringeth forth evil things.

What treasure do you have stored in your heart? Are you bringing life or death into conversations?

Challenge- think of a conversation you recently had… maybe something that got a little heated.. what did you say that crossed a line? How did you feel when you walked away?

A few weeks ago, at group, we had a conversation that went too long without getting God’s input! It started with the book we were studying, then veered left and kept moving! I should have stopped it. I walked away, confused and just not feeling right inside. It’s been on my heart and I have repented and asked for clarity. God’s answer was to not let conversation go on with realigning them with His truth. The further we stretch ‘words’, we must be cautious of both the truth and motives.

The enemy loves to sow in weeds where we have good seed! This is in everything we do daily for Jesus or against!!

So reader- guard our heart! Posture your mouth and thoughts to Jesus!

Remember you are loved!
